Which hospital has the best outcome for a given procedure? When is it a good idea to buy a product's extended warranty? These questions all involve the interpretation of statistics, as do a surprising number of other mysteries, including: Is the "hot hand" among sports players real? How can you tell if Shakespeare is the probable author of a newly discovered poem? What is a guilt-free way to get someone to admit to cheating? "Two DVDs Running time approx. Titanic: Answers From the Abyss lets you tag along with a group of American, British, Canadian, and French scientists as they conduct an extensive forensic examination of the wreck of the Titanic. Originally aired by the Discovery Channel in 1999, this is a documentary well worth seeking out. The expedition's goal was to find answers to several mysteries surrounding the sinking of the Titanic in April 1912. First, they wanted to learn the extent of the damage caused by the collision with the iceberg. Second, they wanted to know how and why the ship broke apart. Finally, they hoped to figure out why the bow of the ship remains largely intact while the stern section exhibits a great amount of damage. As part of the mission, they took extensive film of both sections, using that to generate a photomosaic that better reveals the look and condition of the ship today."

Bettany and Ben discover how the Romans pushed deep into Scotland to build the most heavily fortified border in the whole Empire. Crossing the heart of the country from the Firth of Forth to the Firth of Clyde, the Antonine Wall, at 40 miles long, is perhaps the most impressive Roman frontier ever built. Using the evidence gathered by Ben's eye in the sky, Bettany pieces together the remarkable story of an emperor's lust for glory and the catalogue of events that caused this monument to be quietly abandoned after just 20 years.

Bettany Hughes and Ben Robinson's investigations take them to the windswept plains of Wiltshire and the remains of a ghost town that was once one of William the Conqueror's most important strongholds. Old Sarum is the ancient settlement that should have evolved into Salisbury, but instead it was abandoned and a new city was built from scratch two miles away. Why did this happen? As Ben discovers from the air, many of the clues to the sudden shift are recorded in the lumps and bumps of this unusual site. His aerial observations allow Bettany to unearth a story of Saxon kings and Norman warriors, the birth of the Domesday Book and a very public and bitter battle between the Church and the military.
